ECE 445: Introduction to Control SystemsFall 2008Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
|
|
Goals
- Analysis and design of linear feedback systems in the time and frequency domains.
- Basic understanding of control systems:
- Feedback,
- System stability,
- Robustness, and
- Performance.
Course Description
ECE 445 provides an introduction to the fundamental concept of feedback and the modeling, analysis, and design of closed-loop control systems.
Prerequisites
ECE 314. Signals and Systems. (3) Continuous and discrete time signals and systems; time and frequency domain analysis of LTI systems, Fourier series and transforms, discrete time Fourier series/transform sampling theorem, block diagrams, modulation/demodulation, filters. Prerequisites: ECE 213 and MATH 264.
You are expected to be familiar with the following topics: Differential equations, linear algebra, signals and systems theory (e.g., The Laplace and Z Transforms, transfer function, convolution), and programming (e.g., Matlab/Simulink).
Grading and Examination
- 2 Exams - 25 pts each
- Homework/Quizzes/Class participation - 20 pts total (Of course, quizzes may be unannounced!!)
- Final Exam - 30 pts
Note: All exams and quizzes will be open-book/closed-notes. No makeup exams will be given. Students will be expected to attend class and prepare assignments. Habitual failure to do so will result in a reduced grade.
Assignments and Homework
- Homework and reading assignments will be announced on a weekly basis.
- Problem sets will be assigned at least one week before they are due.
- No late homework will be accepted without special permission from the instructor.
